In Osaka, Japan, you can find this beautiful home and workshop owned by designer Tokuhiko Kise.
”We opened TRUCK in January 1997. I just had a workshop before that and had been making furniture for five years.
The workshop was in a suburban area surrounded by fields with not many people. I met my partner, Hiromi Karatsu, and we wanted to show the things we made. I lined up chairs that I made in front of the workshop so people could see them as they walked by, thinking it would be nice if they asked me to make a chair for them. We found an old building in a town called Tamatsukuri in Osaka and renovated the second floor on our own from scratch so that we could live there. On the first floor, we put machines in the back so that we could make furniture, and we opened a store.”
